Villa of the Consul Fabricius Cornelius Junus

The villa lies in the Campanian countryside. It is huge, a miniature fortress. One of the two Consuls, and a representative of Rome itself resides here unless called by the Senate to meet. Guards patrol the perimetre and defend the metal gates. The Consul awaits visitors.

The guards halt the men, ordering them to state their business.

"I am from Athens, I am a diplomat that wishes to conduct his buisness with the senate"

*The guards eye you warily, escorting you closely through the courtyard of the Villa. It is magnificent, fountains and statues are placed along the area, and the building looms up behind them. The guards take you into the Atrium. There is a small wash pool in the middle of the room, and several doors on either side of you. Suddenly, one of them opens and a small secretary beckons you inside. You enter the personal study of none other than a Consul of Rome. Fabricius Cornelius Junus.*

"Please, sit. And what may I do for you this day?" He speaks Greek fluently to you.

"hello, thank you for your hospitality, i wish to speak to you about the Epirus and the doom we bolth wish of it"

"It is not that we wish doom on Epirus. Rather, Epirus wishes doom on us. He is a greedy man, of this there is no doubt. He fancies himself a new Alexander, can you imagine? So, what of Phyrrus did you want to discuss?"

"i wish to see if you would like to seek the assistance of the Atheanians to crush Epirus"

*Cornelius looks amused*

"And what could tiny Athens do against Phyrrus that mighty Rome could not?"

"we would not have to leave far from home to attack their homeland, we could also assist you with our navy...i dont mean to insult you by offering my help but mabe less losses on your side and more on theirs could create a lasting relationship with your empire and my state"

"Indeed, you are close. But then again, what use is your navy against that of Epirus? He commands many dozens of vessels. If you attack his lands when he embarks for Italy, you may be able to do him some harm. Bloody his nose a little. What do you want in return for your assistance?"

"An alliance might be acceptable. If you come through on your promise. But you must wait until he leaves for Italy before you attack. However, an alliance will not be declared until Epirus is under direct threat from your armies. Is there anything else you require?"

"hmm, this is quite acceptable, would free trade between usbolth be acceptable also?"

"Of course. I shall make a note of it to the Senate. If you are staying the night, I can offer you a room. Just don't be offended if the guards insist on escorting you everywhere. I'm a very important man, you see."

"no, no...i must diliver the good news and have the planning of the invasion begin"

The representative of Roth Gar in the Senate (Vibius Curtius Dentatus) requests to see the Consul, if he so pleases.

*Vibius is escorted inside by the guards, who perform a meticulous search for weapons on his person. He is then taken to the Atrium, where he awaits Fabricius' permission to enter the study. It is given, and Vibius is escorted into the room*

"Ah! Vibius! What may I do for you my friend? I trust you are just here on a friendly visit? Not to do with tiresome politics I hope?" *He chuckles to himself.*

"I'm afraid it's not just a friendly visit. No politics though, I assure you. Roth Gar wishes to transport forces through Senate territory, as the way is safer and faster than by sea or over hostile land, but we wanted your permission first. I am here to ask for it."

"Oh. I suppose there is no problem there. So long as you don't try and usurp and become Dictator for Life. The Senate are jumping at every shadow there is. I will see to it, my friend. May I offer you a room for the night?"

"Call me Cornelius! Consul is my business name. Your room is in the East Wing, by the kitchens. It smells heavenly in the evening. Good day to you. Call me if you require anything. I have a lot of work to do. Maintaining the Republic in crisis is hardly a fun thing.
